The first book-length study of the important American sculptor Hermon Atkins MacNeil (1866-1947) whose considerable achievement encompassed iconic Western bronzes such as Moqui Prayer for Rain (1895); monumental sculpture including the standing figure of George Washington as Commander-in-Chief (1916) for New York's Washington Square Arch; and medallic work including the Liberty Quarter (1916). The book also explores the career of his wife and fellow sculptor Carol Brooks MacNeil (1871-1944).
